LIB DEMS BACK COLLINSBURGH CAMPAIGN

The community campaign to save Colinsburgh Library has been given the backing of North East Fife Liberal Democrats Candidate for the Scottish Parliament, Iain Smith and East Neuk and Landward Fife Council Candidates, Elizabeth Riches and Donald Macgregor.

Speaking from Colinsburgh today, Iain Smith said he had received an unprecedented number of letters from Colinsburgh residents expressing opposition to the closure.

"It is clear from these and the posters I the windows made by children from the local primary school that there is very strong support in the community to keep the library open.

"The library is more than just a place where people can borrow books, but serves the community in many ways, including as an extra classroom for the school.

"The decision by Fife Council's Labour Administration to close the library without consulting the local community was outrageous.

"The fact that to date they have not responded to the concerns of the local community, or the letter I sent them several weeks ago is unacceptable," Iain Smith concluded.
