Fife Council's proposed parking plan for St Andrews has been panned by the Liberal Democrat candidate, Iain Smith.

Calling the draft plan a "money making strategy, not a parking strategy", Scottish Parliament candidate Iain Smith has urged the Council to scrap its proposed £3 a day charge for using the long-stay car park at Petheram Bridge, which is currently free.

"This amounts to a £15 a week tax on workers who have to park in St Andrews, and will also damage St Andrews' reputation as a place that welcomes visitors.

"It will also inevitably lead to a clogging-up of residential streets from drivers trying to avoid the charges.

"I urge Fife Council to think again and come up with a parking plan that is about sensible management of parking in St Andrews in the interests of business, visitors, workers, local residents and students rather than making money for the council." Iain Smith said.
