12.11.48pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 24th May 2007

Iain Smith MSP has welcomed the commitment of the Scottish Executive to bring forward the necessary legislation to scrap

the tolls on the Tay and Forth Road Bridges.

"During the recent election campaign, one of my priorities was to secure the abolition of the Tay Bridge Tolls and I am

delighted that there is now a cross-party consensus that this should happen.

"I welcome confirmation by the new First Minister abolition of the Tay and Forth tolls is a priority of the new Government.

"I look forward to hearing the details of how the SNP Government will scrap tolls. Including its plans for the future management and maintenance of the existing bridges and how they will fund the replacement forth crossing."
