SMITH RAISES SPRINGFIELD WWTW PLANNING CONCERNS

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 4th Jun 2007

Following concerns raised by his constituents in Springfield over their planning application to upgrade the Waste Water Treatment Works, Iain Smith MSP has written to Dr Jon Hargreaves, Chief Executive of Scottish Water, seeking clarification as to why the compulsory purchase order is for such a large piece of ground and why there appear to be no proposals to undertake odour mitigation measures at the same time.

Mr Smith said, 'It makes such perfect sense to take the opportunity of the plant being upgraded to deal with the long-standing odour problem that I am at a loss to know why Scottish Water do not seem to be grasping it with both hands.'
