SMITH SEEKS ASSURANCES OVER INCINERATOR DECISION5.07.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 7th Sep 2007 Further to the news that Scottish Ministers are not to intervene in the planning application for the proposed waste incinerator at Binn Farm, Glenfarg, North East Fife MSP, Iain Smith has written to the Chief Executive of Perth and Kinross Council seeking assurances that the concerns of his constituents are fully taken into account when Perth and Kinross Council considers the application. Furthermore, Mr Smith has asked the Chief Executive what consultation has been conducted with Fife Council and neighbouring communities in Fife. Text of the letter: Dear Bernadette Malone PROPOSED ENERGY FROM WASTE PLANT AT BINN FARM, GLENFARG I understand that Perth and Kinross Council will shortly be considering the application for the waste plant at Binn Farm, Glenfarg. You will no doubt be aware that I raised strong objections on behalf of the neighbouring communities in my constituency about the failure of Perth and Kinross Council to consult them prior to determining the original application. As a result of that failure the Scottish Ministers referred the approval back to Perth and Kinross Council for consultation with Fife Council prior to re-determining the application. I would be grateful if you could advise me what consultation has been conducted with Fife Council and neighbouring communities in Fife and an assurance that the concerns of my constituents are fully taken into account when Perth and Kinross Council considers this application. Yours Sincerely, Iain Smith MSP Scottish Liberal Democrat, North East Fife ENDS
