SMITH HAILS NEW BEGINNING FOR COLINSBURGH

5.12.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 24th Oct 2007

In the wake of the reprieve granted to Colinsburgh's Galloway

Library, Iain Smith MSP has welcomed the proposed restructuring

of the Galloway Trust to secure its future and to bring the

terms of its bequests into the twenty-first century.

Mr Smith said, 'The people of Colinsburgh are to be heartily

congratulated upon their fight to retain their library and

their determination to ensure that the intentions of Thomas

Carstairs Galloway will be carried out in the future. Not only

will the library remain as an important community hub but the

new trust will return control to the people of Colinsburgh by

including the elected East Neuk Fife Councillors and local people.

They are surely best-placed to ensure that the money is

appropriately used for the good of the people and to

alleviate present-day difficulties, rather than those which

pertained to the Victorian era. I am certain the future

of the Trust is in excellent hands and I wish it all the best.'
