With two weeks still remaining in this year's Woodland Trust Scotland's Christmas Card Recycling Scheme, North East Fife MSP, Iain Smith is calling on people to go out and recycle any Christmas cards they still have.

Mr Smith said: "Knowing how much waste is created during the festive season, I really encourage people to go out and support this scheme and put something positive back into the environment".

He added "I'm proud that last year in Fife we increased the quantity of Christmas cards we recycled through the scheme to 10.87 tonnes - that represents over 550,000 cards. I hope we can build on that this year."

Last week Mr Smith placed a motion before the Scottish Parliament supporting the Woodland Trust Scotland's scheme which raises money for planting new trees by recycling old Christmas cards. The Motion has already received the support of over 30 MSPs.
