SMITH WELCOMES PASSING OF GRADUATE ENDOWMENT BILL

6.27.00pm GMT Thu 28th Feb 2008

Iain Smith, MSP for North East Fife, has welcomed the passing of the Graduate Endowment (Scotland) Bill but has criticised Conservative members for voting against it.

Speaking after the vote in the Scottish Parliament, Mr Smith said: "This is an important step to widening access and removing barriers to poorer students entering higher education.

"The hypocrisy of the Conservative Party on this issue is hard to believe. They have criticised the Graduate Endowment ever since it was introduced but given the option to scrap it they voted to keep it"
