SMITH CONGRATULATES FALKLAND FOR SUSTAINABILITY ACCOLADE

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 8th Jul 2009

North East Fife MSP Iain Smith has praised Falkland for winning the sustainability accolade in the Scottish Calor Village of the Year Competition 2009.

The award, which also comes with a prize of £500 for community investment, is organised by Calor Gas with support from the Association of Scottish Community Councils and the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations Rural Team.

Iain Smith said:

"This award is well deserved as Falkland has taken great strides in improving its carbon footprint and in turn generating a sustainable community. Events such as the Big Tent have gone a long way in boosting the sustainable and eco credentials of the community and I am sure they will continue to grow further."
