North East Fife MSP Iain Smith visited the Scottish Fisheries Museum and Anstruther Visitor Information Centre today as part of his five day trek around the East Neuk Coastal Path.

Mr Smith met with members of staff at both the Information Centre and the Scottish Fisheries Museum to discuss tourism in the area, the services they provide, and the effect the recent economic downfall has had on numbers visiting Anstruther and the surrounding area.

The information centre does not only provide information for Anstruther, but it is a focal point for information regarding things to see and do through the East Neuk and the Coastal path. The Scottish Fisheries Museum, celebrating its 40th year, charts the progress of fishing in Scotland from the 18th century to the present day and also houses the world famous Reaper, bringing many tourists to the region.

Mr Smith said: "It is important to speak to those with a daily involvement in North East Fife's tourist industry as it gives me a fuller understanding of the main problems in the area.

"The information centre in Anstruther provides the vital link between tourists and local businesses, so it is best place to advise me on any issues troubling the area."

"Like the Information Centre, the Museum is a key player in East Neuk Tourism and the fact it is celebrating its 40th year, is testament to its role in Anstruther, North East Fife, and Scotland. May it continue to educate and inform for another 40 years".
